Emilia is passionate about the planning and layout of an interior and believes it is important to get right first of all. It is the foundation upon which all other elements of a scheme sit. A well-planned interior will make moving around and using a space feel ‘effortless'.
Emilia Laurie Interior Design will come to survey a space and draw up plans with which to create furniture layouts, lighting and plumbing plans. If you would like to see your layout in 3D Emilia Laurie can create Computer Generated Images to get you as close as possible to what the final design will be like.
Lighting & Electrical Plans
Good lighting is second, if not equal to, good space planning. Lighting is transformative in an interior design scheme. A small amount of thought goes a very long way. Emilia will work with you to ensure this crucial element is not overlooked in the initial stages or left to be an afterthought.
Emilia Laurie Interior Design can produce full lighting and electrical plans in the early stages of a project as well as help source suitable light fittings and lamps to work within a scheme later on.
Schemes & Mood Boards
Creating a scheme that not only looks beautiful but is also appropriate and hardworking can be a daunting task. It may feel difficult to find cohesion between disparate elements in different areas, not to mention the amount of choice available.
Emilia will put together an interior design scheme with close attention to how you live and your specific needs. The scope of the scheme will depend on your brief and may include flooring, paints and fabrics as well as other elements. Emilia likes this to be a collaborative process. She is happy to work with you, visiting showrooms together. Similarly, she can create a scheme or mood board as a starting point from which the final interior design scheme will then come.
Bespoke Cabinetry
Emilia Laurie can design and draw bespoke cabinetry. Whether it is made to measure to fit out a whole Study or just a single piece, she will help you get the measurements correct and a choice of wood and finish that will work well with the rest of your scheme.
Carpets & Flooring
Emilia will help you decide which flooring may work best for you. She will explain the reasons why one choice may be more suitable than another. Whether you like a looped pile or a tufted carpet, wool or man-made fibres, stone or wood, vinyl or reclaimed tiles, Emilia will deftly guide you to make the best choice for your brief.
Emilia Laurie is able to source from all the major carpet suppliers and to commission bespoke rugs and carpets.
Furniture & Upholstery
Getting furniture the correct size is more important to the feel of a room than is often realised. A relatively small difference in measurements can make quite a difference. Similarly, the wrong fabric can mean a sofa looks tired and dirty before it should, not to mention how the frame and fillings may behave over time.
Emilia will help you get the right size, the right seat and the right fabric. Emilia sources furniture from a wide range of places depending on the needs of the Client. She works closely with suppliers and upholsterers to give new life to existing furniture and to create bespoke pieces for her. Clients can decide on details like how firm or soft they would like the sofa and it can be made or upholstered accordingly.
Paints & Wallpapers
Whether you lean towards paint or wallpaper Emilia can guide you through the many options available. She will help guide you, looking at the direction a room faces, its natural light, the ceiling height, any artificial lights and when the room is used, all factors which may influence your final choice of colour, shade and finish.
Emilia Laurie is able to supply from all the recognised wallpaper brands and specialist paint companies including Cole & Son, de Gournay, Little Greene, Edward Bulmer and Graham Brown.
Fabrics
There are a vast amount of fabrics available from many different showrooms. This may seem overwhelming, especially when each one may seem lovelier than the last. Emilia’s expert knowledge of fabric will help you select fabrics that are entirely appropriate for your brief.
Emilia will help you understand the fabrics, explaining the different weaves, rub tests, gsm (grams per square metre), when to use natural fabrics and when man-made may be better and the many other terms you may have come across.

Curtains & Blinds
With a choice of headings, linings, fullness, drop, pole or track, curtains and blinds may seem a minefield full of potential expensive mistakes. Emilia will cut through the jargon and explain the different options to you so you can more confidently make a decision. After helping you decide on your fabric and the style of curtain or blind Emilia will ensure they are made and fitted to the highest standards.
